Bistrita (RO)
Capital of Bistriţa-Năsăud County, Bistriţa, (82,689 inhabitants) is located in the North-East of the Transylvanian plateau, in the Bistriţa basin which is crossed by the river bearing the same name. Bistriţa has a surface of 13.7 km2, and includes 6 satellite communities: Unirea – 5 km, Slătiniţa – 10 km, Ghinda – 8 km, Viişoara – 5 km, Sigmir – 6 km and Sărata – 10 km. The Bistriţa basin has a temperate climate with humid and relatively hot summers, and snowy winters. Bistriţa’s microclimate is characteristic of a higher altitude than the real one of 350 m. because of the mountain relief and rich vegetation, very close to the city itself. Bistriţa City is keen to use non-conventional energy in order to save the local and wider environment.

Our LIEF
In the Forum all local actors work together and develop a Sustainable Energy Action Plan. Its idea is the cooperation of as many partners as possible in order to have various inputs which have an influence on the work of the Forum.

1. Renewables and Information campaign for media, schools and fairs. 2. Rehabilitation of schools and other municipal buildings. This was done in 11 schools and 3 municipal buildings. 3. Preparation of an energy balance at the city’s heating plant – very important, as it pointed out clearly that we need to introduce cogeneration. Also by monitoring it, we were able to reduce the CO2 emissions by 2.5% in the last year. Planned 1. Creation of an energy info point – permanent action, starting in 2009 2. Continuation of local energy Forum meetings, at least twice a year 3. Organisation of the Open Day for Solar Energy every year in June, starting in 2008 4. Our Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP)
It marks the main work of the Forum. Its aim is to bring sustainability into the city by formulating an action plan which was developed by all local actors which took part in the Forum.

Communication and dissemination material
This part describes the way how the communities promote the actions concerning BELIEF. It aims at informing a wider public in order to raise awareness on sustainable development among them.
