Icon title section Padova (IT)

Capital of the Padova Province, the City of Padova lies in the north-east of Italy next to the Bacchiglione River. Its population of 211,985 inhabitants is spread over an area of 92 km2 (2,304 inhabitants/km2). Padova has long been famous for its important University, founded in 1222, housing many historic, cultural and artistic monuments attracting tourists from all over the world. It is an important agricultural, commercial and industrial centre, and a central economic and transportation hub of the Veneto Region. There are many industries, mainly machinery, tools, textiles, tanneries and food processing. The town is active in combating climate change and promoting energy efficiency; Padova is twinned with Freiburg (Germany), with whom they work together on energy topics.

In the Forum all local actors work together and develop a Sustainable Energy Action Plan. Its idea is the cooperation of as many partners as possible in order to have various inputs which have an influence on the work of the Forum.

1. Replacement of installed thermal plants in public buildings owned by the Municipality of Padua, converting 65 generators from diesel fuel to natural gas
2. Interventions for the retrofitting of around 10 municipal buildings for energy saving (replacement of frames, thermal insulation of walls and floors, etc.)
3. Interventions for energy saving and efficiency by final users, promotion of renewables: distribution of hundreds of high efficiency bulbs, setting up of guidelines to professionals and general public on new materials/technologies for RES and RUE, grants for €200,000 for the installation of solar panels
Planned
1. Strategic re-examination of most energy demanding operational municipal sectors: public lighting, including distribution lines; traffic lights; heating and electricity consumption in buildings and transportation. Completion of further steps of the Energy Efficiency Plan, including traffic lights, public lighting and old vehicles of the municipal fleet
2. Strengthening of collaboration among stakeholders in order to achieve common objectives, in particular with administrators of private blocks, thermal plants maintenance men and professional categories (orders of engineers, architects, qualified technicians, etc.). Project of involvement of block administrators, in collaboration with ANACI and ENEA for the energy retrofitting of at least 3 buildings of ANACI associates
3. Adopting tools for strategic planning & monitoring of the carried out activity and the definition of medium term objectives. Definition of the Municipal Energy Plan

It marks the main work of the Forum. Its aim is to bring sustainability into the city by formulating an action plan which was developed by all local actors which took part in the Forum.
